Arizona Climbing Closures - 2008

Baboquivari Wilderness Area
The climbing guide for southern Arizona notes that the Cougar Cave area is a sensitive area and asks that people camp elsewhere to prevent impact to this area.

Restrictions usually occur from February 15th through June 30th. Areas affected are routes on the Rockfellow Group (including End Pinnacle, Rockfellow Dome, Bastion Towers, Lost Tower, Hawk Pinnacle, Buzzard's Roost, and Chay Desa Tsay), all routes on Waterfall Dome, all routes of Squaretop and Lower Squaretop, all routes on Cochise Dome (including What's My Line Dome), and Dome Park. Contact local station for current information.

Closed to new route development. This is an issue that is still being looked at by the Access Fund.
 
Phoenix
Camelback Mountain - Camel's Head (The Neck Area - East side) Restriction first introduced 7th March 2000. Extends until May 31st. Routes affected include 'The Neck' and 'Line of Fire'.

Granite Mountain
Restrictions usually extend from February 1st through mid-July. Areas on Granite Mountain included in the closure are the rock cliff face or the rim above the rock face and extending 100 feet back from the edge of the cliff face.
Thumb Butte
Restrictions usually extend from February 1st through mid-July. Both the north and south climbing faces, the top of Thumb Butte, and the areas at the base of the climbing face.

Mount Lemmon
Peregrine restrictions:
Some portions of Pusch Ridge Wilderness: January 1st thru April 30th
Barnum Rock: February 1st thru August 31st
Rappel Rock, Raven Rock, the Fortress, Branching-Out Crag
and some routes on Panorma Wall: March 15th thru June 30th. Contact ranger station for current info.
